Robotics 2Now that we've learned the basics about sensors, actuators, software architecture, and computer vision, go out and solve a challenging problem that has a broader impact. The Robotics 2 projects involved working with JPL on delayed teleoperation control, making a standard 5 DOF industrial arm draw people's faces, having multiple Parrot Drones follow each other out of a room, and building an affordable (<$500) autonomous sailboat kit that could be easily distributed to other students.
I was part of the team that developed RoboSail, a competition for high schoolers across the country sponsored by US Sailing. Inspired by SailBot, a semi-autonomous racing regatta, we developed RoboSail with the goal of immersing students in a hands on environment that would expose them to technical and real-life skills at a price point that most high schools would be able to afford (target price range was about $500 for the whole kit).
